Everything You Need To Know About Bathtime For Babies

Bathtime is a precious time for parents and babies alike – offering a window of time for relaxation and bonding. However, that goes without saying that it can also be a source of anxiety, particularly for new parents who are unsure of how to bathe a newborn properly and safely.

In this article, we go over some tips and tricks on how to make bathtime an enjoyable experience for both you and your child. Here’s everything you need to know about bathtime for babies.

First things first…

Make sure you have a baby bathtub, a washcloth, baby soap, a towel, and a clean pair of clothes available before you commence bathtime. Just enough warm water to cover the baby's chest should be added to the bathtub (we’d recommend water around 35 to 38°C).

How to bathe a newborn

Now that you have gotten your supplies ready, it is time to get down to business. It is important to never, not even for a second, leave your little one alone in the tub!

So, how do you bathe your newborn the right way?

First, take your baby’s clothes off and clean their face and eyes with a damp washcloth. Then, carefully place your newborn in the tub and proceed to clean their body with the washcloth. Remember to always support your little one’s head and neck! Check out Cam Cam Copenhagen’s Muslin Washcloth for a pack of soft washcloths made from 100% organic cotton.

Once you have done a general wipe-down, lather a baby soap in your hands and apply it to your baby’s body (be careful in avoiding their face!). We would recommend using a baby soap such as Mushie’s Baby Shampoo & Body Wash Fragrance Free (Cosmos) that is gentle, free of harsh chemicals and will help maintain the optimal pH of your baby’s skin. This baby soap is specially developed for the delicate skin and scalp of babies and will aid in moisturising your little one’s skin.

Then, rinse the soap off with a washcloth, gently lift your baby from the tub and wrap them in a fresh towel.

Bonus: Bathtime can be an enjoyable experience for your little one. Consider adding in some bath toys, such as Cam Cam Copenhagen’s Sailboat Bath Toy, to encourage storytelling, imagination and copious amounts of fun!

Post-bath care

After drying off your little one with a soft towel, it is time to dress them in a clean outfit. You can also apply a baby lotion, cream or oil to keep your baby’s skin soft, hydrated and moisturised. Here are a couple of products you may consider:

Conclusion

In conclusion, bathtime is a crucial component of a baby’s daily routine and can serve as the perfect opportunity to foster your parent-child connection. With the tips we have listed above, you can ensure that bathtime is a safe yet fun time for both you and your baby!
